VULNERABILITY SUMMARY
A potential security vulnerability has been identified with certain versions of HP Touchpoint Analytics prior to version 4.1.4.2827.
This vulnerability may allow a local attacker with administrative privileges to execute arbitrary code via an HP Touchpoint Analytics system service.

How to detect if a device is affected by this vulnerability

Method 1
  1. On devices with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager, expand Software Components.
  3. Right-click HP Device Health Service and select Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click Driver.
  5. The Driver Version field lists the current version of the HP Device Health Service driver. If the Driver Version is lower than 4.1.4.2827, then follow the steps in Method 1 from the Resolution section of this document.
Method 2
  1. On devices with Microsoft Windows operating system, in the Windows Search menu, type Control Panel.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, click Programs and then click Uninstall a Program.
  4. On the Programs and Features screen, navigate to HP Touchpoint Analytics Client. Write down the Version. If the Version is lower than 4.1.4.2827, then follow the steps in Method 2 from the Resolution section of this document.
RESOLUTION
The below options highlight how to detect if a device is affected by this vulnerability and for remediation actions.
Method 1
  1. On devices with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system, right-click the Windows Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager, expand Software Components.
  3. Right-click HP Device Health Service and select Properties.
  4. In the resulting Properties dialog box, click Driver.
  5. The Driver Version field lists the current version of the HP Device Health Service driver. Write down the Driver Version.
  6. Click OK and close Device Manager.
  7. If the Driver Version is lower than 4.1.4.2827:
    1. In the Windows Search menu, type Settings.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. In the Settings window, click Update and Security.
    4. On the Windows Update screen, click Check for updates.
  8. Once updates have been applied on the device and the message You’re up to date displays, repeat steps 1-5 to ensure that the driver version of HP Device Health Service is greater than or equal to 4.1.4.2827.
Method 2
  1. On devices with Microsoft Windows operating system, in the Windows Search menu, type Control Panel.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, click Programs and then click Uninstall a Program.
  4. On the Programs and Features screen, navigate to HP Touchpoint Analytics Client. Write down the Version.
  5. If the Version is lower than 4.1.4.2827:
    1. In the Windows Search menu, type Administrative Tools.
    2. Click Administrative Tools.
    3. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click Task Scheduler.
    4. In the middle panel of the Task Scheduler window, right-click TechPulse updater and select Run from the drop-down menu.
