HDX - IMPROPER NEUTRALIZATION OF SPECIAL ELEMENTS USED IN A COMMAND ('COMMAND INJECTION')

The Poly HDX is susceptible to a command injection vulnerability which allows an authenticated malicious user to execute arbitrary commands on the system when using the firmware update functionality. Poly made changes to the HDX systems starting with the commercial software build 3.1.1.2 to prevent this vulnerability. Input validation was improved so that commands are no longer processed as instructions and the software update will be aborted.

Recognition

Poly would like to thank Jon Doe from Research Lab for reporting security vulnerabilities to us and for their coordinated disclosure.

Resolution

Poly recommends customers upgrade to firmware build 3.1.1.2 or later.

For customers who cannot upgrade to a fixed version, administrators can:

  1. Disable the web interface on the HDX.

  2. Use the Whitelist option to limit connections to the web management interface to certain, approved IP addresses.

Please consult the HDX Administrator’s Guide for information and instructions on these options.
